Bridal Gown
This bridal couple is from the late 1950s. The bride is in a style of gown that was very typical in the 1950s. Her bodice has a thin, sheer white fabric over a solid base fabric. She has a scooped neckline and long sleeves.
The bride’s full skirt is at what was called a “cocktail length” between the knee and mid-calf. This was a very popular length of skirt for formal and party dresses. The gathered skirt is the sheer white fabric over the white base fabric. The skirt is held out by a “crinoline slip” as described in the previous article. Lots of rows of stiff gathered net ruffles on a foundation fabric were used to make the skirt stand out.
If you have read the FREE 10 Wedding Ideas from Vintage Brides ebook, you would know that this dress is a Triangular shape. You can see how this shape compares to other bridal dress shapes in the ebook.
Bridal Headpiece & Bouquet

Our bride’s headpiece is a circular “crown” tiara that stands up from the top of her head. These tiaras were usually covered in pearls or crystals. This was a very popular style of headpiece in the late 1950s. The large bridal bouquet is made of 5 or 6 white orchids in a floral holder, without ribbons attached.
Groom
The groom wears a typical formal style for the 1950s. He wears a white jacket over black trousers with a black tie and cummerbund. If you remember from the previous article, a cummerbund was a gathered fabric band that was worn above the waistline.
